Battlefield is a returning stage from the Super Smash Bros. series, and is the main stage for Super Smash Unleashed!. Because of the game being a free movement game, this stage has been expanded to an entire map, and the floating islands in the background of the version from Super Smash Bros. Wii U are now part of the actual stage in Super Smash Unleashed!. However, the actual main island with the three platforms floating above it is the main part of the stage. Like the version in SSBB and SSBWU, it runs on a day-night cycle. However, what's new is that it uses the internal clock of the platform you're playing on, so if you're playing in the day, afternoon, or night, the stage will cycle through the day, afternoon, and night, respectively.
The iconic part of the stage, the standard stone platform with three smaller platforms floating above it, is based similar to that of the version in SSBWU. For this game, it's a stoney, grass-topped floating island with three floating platforms above it. There appears to be ruins of a temple underneath. As for the rest of the newly expanded stage, it is themed to be floating islands, with ruins of a sort of temple on each. The overground of the stage match that of the SSBWU version, with the background now being part of the stage. The contrast of the stage appears to be brightened as well.
However, there is more to is than just the overground. On the right side, there are invisible, ghostly steps that lead ruins of a dome. In that area, there are two levers. The one on the right, when pulled, reveals the underground part of that area, and appears to be ruins of a dungeon. The second lever transforms the stage into the bigger version of Battlefield, the Big Battlefield.
Also, on the island that is seen behind the actual battlefield, there are targets scattered all over the ruins. You are able to break them, and if you break all twenty-five of them without missing or having another player break them, you will be awarded +100 gold. If in a Time match, you will get an extra point, too.
- This and Final Destination are the two most famous stages in Super Smash Unleashed!.
- This is the only stage that can transform into a bigger version of itself.
- It should be noted that both stages appear on the stage selection screen. However, in Battlefield, you can change it to Big Battlefield and back as many times you want. But if you selected Big Battlefield, the lever to alter the stage is missing entirely.
- It should also be noted that if the lever is pulled, the only thing that changes is the number of platforms and the expansion of the main battlefield.
